old and shabby, a woman can dispose of it and get a new one without
shocking the entire community.

Lazy... I think not!

Just because you didn't get a blog update the last two weekends
does not mean that I have been sitting on my butt. On the contrary I have just been to tired to write this blog!

Well weekend before last my friend Kelly and I went to Baytown to ride. We side tripped into Fayetteville to drop off the dogs and have dinner with my family. Kelly's in-laws live in Baytown so we had a nice little place to lay our heads on Friday and Saturday night. Saturday was such a beautiful day, no better way to spend it besides on a bike! It was the Baytown YMCA Gator Ride. 43 miles latter I had a bike short tan that all of you would envy. That was by far one of the most fun rides I have done yet. We rode out passed teh San Jacinto monument, then passed the Battleship of Texas, and finally took a ferry across the bay. After the ride we stopped at a wing joint for a rewarding pitcher of beer (to replace the salt we'd lost).

On Sunday we headed back to Fayetteville to catch a riding clinic. Why I continue to punish myself weekend after weekend is beyond me! I wish I didn't love it so much. The clinic was pretty cool. We did a lot of hill training. Normally 20 miles of hills would have been okay, but not after 43 miles the day before. I have a lot of training to do before the MS 150!

Speaking of the MS150, I did my first training ride with my team. We rode out of Columbus. I think there were about 800 riders there. My dad and sister helped out at the first rest stop so that was cool to ride up and see them. Plus as an added bonus I did hear "on your left" a lot as people passed me up, but I got to say "on your left" to other people. So I am not riding at the end! Rock On!

Tri County Hill Hopper

Another Sunday down another athletic adventure. This weekend dad and I rode in the Tri County Hill Hopper. What a ride let me tell you. Our first mistake was crucial. We decided it would be a good idea to drive the route the night before just to see what lay ahead. WRONG MOVE! It was hill after hill after hill. We were forced to stop at the winery in Round Top for a nice glass of red to calm our nerves. Well we thought it would calm our nerves, but not really. Dad said he had a hard time getting to sleep thinking about all those hills.

So on Sunday we woke up at the but crack of dawn to start getting ready. Kaytlynn and I in our bike shorts and jerseys and dad in his sweat pants ( shorts hidden underneath!) and t-shirt! Power bars and gatorade in hand we headed out to pack up the bikes ~just in time for dad to have a flat....little did he know it was the first of many flats to come that day. Then we headed for the starting line.

Bang... off we went huffing and puffing up those hills. We got about 11 miles out in 45 minutes. We were feeling pretty good, but mother nature was calling. After a quick drain, a view of an old guy in really really short red shorts, and a banana ( a yellow one not the one in the shorts) we got back on the bikes. Somewhere in between hills we lost each other. We didn't meet up again until the end. I was waiting with the rest of the family. We were just starting to wonder if we should call out the search party when dad came riding in. Turns out I am really not faster than dad on my bike. He suffered through two more flat tires while riding! There is no pain like riding on a flat tire going up a hill. So ~

WAY TO GO LEWIS!!!! Congratulations on your longest ride yet. Just wait till you get those new slicks on. You are going to kick my tail in the Bike La Grange ride!!!

Adventures in Running

I can't believe I haven't blogged in 7 months. Have you all missed me? I've missed you! I've changed the tittle and we have a new look, but really it's just the same old same old. I've decided to get the blog back and going because there have been some really big things happening and there are some really big things coming up! This past weekend Laurie and I flew over to Florida. We were a part of the Inaugural National Breast Cancer Marathon. Hands down biggest and best thing I have ever been involved in. 100 % of ALL of the profits were donated to breast cancer research and to women living with breast cancer who have no insurance. When I left to come home on Monday the total raised was over $800,000.00- Did you just get chills all over your body.... I did. I have to say that I did cry all weekend, but it was tears of joy and sadness all wrapped up. Of coarse most of you know what an emotional nut I am, so you aren't surprised! Laurie and I flew out on Friday. We spent all day Saturday at a health expo. We picked up some cool free stuff and bought some even cooler stuff. We sat in and listened to Jeff Gallaway, the man who's running program we follow, and Joan Benoit, the 1984 Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist, speak. Sunday morning was the marathon. Now I would like to lie and tell you that I ran all 26.2 miles, but I didn't. Laurie and I did the 1/2 marathon, 13.1. But hey, not bad for a former fat girls! After the race came the best part... a bagle, an apple, and several bottles of water Laurie and I made our way down to the post race celebration! Let me just tell you that there is nothing better than a six pack of beer, listening to a live band, and wearing a nice pink medal around your neck. What a weekend! We already have plans to hit the big event again next year. Everybody mark your calendars for Feb.19th. I am hoping that you will join us!
